Part of Gathered Together, a four-day festival of performance from some of the world’s leading inclusive dance organisations, presented by Indepen-dance.
On Friday, Gathered Together celebrates the best of inclusive dance from Scotland, England, Colombia, Spain and New Zealand:
PROGRAMME
Jolt (New Zealand) presents Whakapapa
Devised by and performed by six dancers from their own stories, each story dispels the disability label and explores ideas of identity, and connection to culture, history, and ancestors through dance, text and film.
Right2Dance presents Wonderland
Created by Move It, a creative dance class for young people of all abilities, this piece is inspired by Alice and her journey to Wonderland.
Marcos Pereira presents Contemporary Sisyphus
Sisyphus was condemned to push a rock to the top of a mountain from which it always fell, for all eternity. Marcos Pereira’s award-winning solo performance considers how we are our own Sisyphus as we strive to meet expectations throughout our lives in all areas from constant self-demand, which only leads us to become desperate for perfection.
Evie Waddell presents A conversation between hands and feet
A multidisciplinary performer/creator working in contemporary dance, Scottish step dance, singing and BSL, her piece will explore movement influenced by her own minority languages - Gaelic, BSL and Scots - and the cultural practices and context that come with them.
Indepen-dance, LPM Dance (England) and ConCuerpos (Colombia) present a ‘Work in Progress’
Based on the concept of a post-apocalyptic reinterpretation of the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel, this work will showcase the strength and fluidity of movement across a spectrum of abilities and cultures.
ACCESS: All performances at Gathered Together are audio described and BSL Interpreted.
Audio Description/AD: Emma-Jane McHenry
BSL Interpreter: Yvonne Strain and others tbc
The sign language interpreter will stand on Stage Left. AD headsets will be supplied by our audio describer and can be picked up from the Indepen-dance desk situated in the foyer.
Indepen-dance is funded by Creative Scotland, The Trades House of Glasgow - Commonweal Fund and The William Grant Foundation. Gathered Together 2024 is supported in kind by Scottish Ballet and The Work Room.
