Buffalo Bills’ Rodger Saffold Named NFL’s 11th Best Guard

Rodger Saffold was added by the Buffalo Bills this offseason to strengthen the team’s offensive line.

Our friends at NFL Wire see this as a great idea.

By ranking the top 11 inside offensive linemen, Saffold kicked things off. TD Wire’s 11th best guard in the league turned out to be Saffold.

The Pro Bowler is considered one of the best in the business. However, seeing him among football’s best isn’t always promised. But that doesn’t bother the NFL Wire since this is the second offseason that Saffold has appeared on this list.

Here’s how Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar breaks down Saffold’s game:

Saffold ranked 11th on our list last year, and he’s been consistent in 2021 despite Ryan Tannehill’s regression and Derrick Henry’s injuries. Last season, he allowed two sacks, eight quarterback hits and 18 quarterback hits on 494 pass-blocking snaps, and he’s proven more than capable of intimidating people in running situations. with or without Henry in the field. Here, in the divisional round against the Bengals, Saffold (#76) shoots to seal the edge, helping D’Onta Foreman scamper for a nine-yard run.

The two sacks Saffold gave up last year were to Arizona’s Chandler Jones in Week 1 and Indianapolis’ DeForest Buckner in Week 8, and we can forgive them. On this 40-yard pass from Tannehill to AJ Brown in this Bengals game, watch how Saffold puts defensive tackle DJ Reader on the trail, then faces Reader’s bull rush, putting Reader down at the end.

Here’s another deep pass from the Titans with Saffold assisting in the pro pass – this time, against the Chiefs in Week 7. Here, nose tackle Derrick Nnadi has no answer for Saffold once Saffold is ready. You find plenty of them on the Saffold Strip.

Saffold made the first Pro Bowl of his career in 2021, he was later released by the Titans for cap considerations and signed a one-year contract with the Bills. That puts Saffold in another passing game known for his big plays, and he still has the ability to protect himself as they happen.
